Abstract

898,779. Function generators. ROE & CO. Ltd., A. V. Aug. 24, 1959 [Sept. 1, 1958], No. 27953/58. Class 106 (1). A digital arbitrary function generator, preferably for use with the digital integrator described in Specification 886,382 comprises a store a containing the gradients of straight lines approximating to the arbitrary function, a store b containing values of the variable at which a change from one gradient to another is required, and a control means l which causes a change of gradient at the output when the value of the variable reaches one of the values in the store b. Corresponding positions of the stores hold the gradient and the difference between the values of x between which the gradient lies. An appropriate difference value is gated to a register j. Incoming increments dx decrease this value until it reaches zero when a different gradient is selected, and a new value gated to j. If a dx decrement occurs the difference value in the currently selected section of store b is subtracted from the contents of j and subsequent decrements increase the quantity held in j.
