Abstract
Titanium tetrachloride is reduced with 0,3-2 mols. of a dialkylaluminium monohalide to give a titanium compound which is probably, e.g. TiCl3 complexed with AlCl3. The reaction is carried out at -20 DEG to +15 DEG C. and held at this temperature for at least two hours in an inert liquid organic diluent, the resulting insoluble product being heated at 60 DEG -100 DEG C. and being washed with fresh diluent, to remove soluble by-products, either before or after the heat treatment.ALSO:A solid catalyst component for polymerizing 1-olefins is prepared by mixing, in an inert liquid organic diluent, a dialkyl aluminium monohalide with titanium tetrachloride in a molar ratio of 0,3-2:1 at -20 DEG to +15 DEG C., holding the mixture at this temperature for at least two hours and then heating the insoluble product at 60 DEG -100 DEG C. The product may be washed with fresh diluent before or after the heat treatment and for polymerization it is activated with dialkyl aluminium halide. As an alternative to using pure dialkyl aluminium halide to prepare the solid component, it may be used in the form of the sesquichloride. Specified monomers are propylene, 1-butene, 3-methyl-1-butene, 4-methyl-1-pentene and 5-methyl-1-hexene.
