Abstract

In the dyeing of mixtures of fibres of polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile with protein fibres such as wool, with basic dyestuffs, improved results are obtained if the mixture is treated, before or during dyeing, with a wool resist comprising a highly polymeric vinyl compound containing a quarternary ammonium group. An aqueous dispersion or solution of the resist may be added to the dyebath or may be applied to the fibre mixture as a pre-treatment. Specified resists are the quaternary ammonium salts of polymers of acrylic acid- and methacrylic acidb -dimethylamino-ethyl ester, -b -diethylaminoethyl-ester, -b -pyrrolidino-ethyl ester or -b -morphilino-ethyl ester, or of polymers of acrylic acid- or methacrylic acid-b -dimethylamino-ethyl amide or -g -dimethyl-amino-propylamide. Examples are given.
