898,233. Weighing apparatus. BRECKNELL Ltd., CHARLES W. Dec. 14, 1959 [Dec. 13, 1958], No. 40244/58. Class 143. A weight-and-price indicating scale of the kind wherein the weighing mechanism drives a rotatable disc bearing weight and price indicia, the latter indicia are in concentric bands and are displayed on a screen 23 by an optical system whose elements are a light source 18 and condenser lens 19 on one side of the disc 12 and a mirror 20 and projection lens 21 on the other side, all these elements being mounted on a carriage 17 which is movable radially of the disc in the direction of the optical axis of the projector lens 21 so that an image of a selected price band may be projected (e.g. via the mirror 22) on to the screen 23 so as to occupy substantially the same position on the screen for all positions of the carriage. The carriage movement is effected by a cord 25 trained over pulleys 26a, 26b, the latter of which is connected to an operating knob 30 and the former to a drum 31 which carries indications of the carriage setting. The weighing mechanism includes a weigh beam 4a one end of which carries a yoke 5 supported by a pair of parallel spring resistants (not shown), the yoke being connected by a rack bar 8 to the pinion 9 driving the chart, the rack bar being offset from the point of connection of the weigh beam to the yoke to protect the indicating mechanism from damage. The weight indicia are adjacent the periphery and on both sides of the disc and are visible through lenses 13.
