Abstract

897,200. Dry shavers. WILKINSON SWORD Ltd., and RANDOLPH, H. B. Oct. 10, 1960 [July 11, 1959], No. 23879/59. Class 131. A dry shaver comprises an endless belt member movable along its length in sliding contact with a co-operating member, each of the members being perforated or slotted so that hairs extending through the perforations or slots of one member are cut on relative displacement of the members, and a motor to effect the relative displacement. As shown, a thin sheet metal guard 13, having apertures 13a, is detachably secured t o a casing 11 which is shaped to close the ends of the guard and encloses an endless flexible belt 14 apertured at 14a and pressed by a spring-urged bridge member 15 into contact with the guard and with a rubber-covered rotor 19 which partially houses an electric motor 18. Vanes 15a of the bridge member have belt-contacting surfaces 15b of the same curvature as the guard and cut hair collects in the spaces between the vanes. One edge of the guard and belt are toothed to provide a moustache trimmer 13b. In modifications the drive is provided by a clockwork motor or a ratchet driven fly wheel, a sprocket wheel engaging slots in the belt replacing the rubbercovered rotor. In a further modification a reciprocating motor as disclosed in Specification 824,257 is used.
