Abstract

897,024. Presses for separating liquids from solids. ASPLUND, A. J. A. Oct. 24, 1958 [Oct. 28, 1957], No. 34078/58. Class 46. A continuous disc type press comprises two discs, 12, 14 mounted on shafts 20, which are mutually inclined, both of the shafts being capable of limited axial movement. The adjacent faces of the discs are provided with a filtering layer such as a plate 42 and peripheral walls 46 which define a closed chamber 48. The discs are secured to driven gear wheels 56 the opposite sides of which carry a ring member 104 which has a circumferential roller track 106. The roller track 106 is engaged by a roller bearing 100 of at least one servo mechanism 64 which comprises a cylinder 68 secured to the press frame and a piston 70 which actuates a rod 73 attached at its other end to a lever 76 pivoted at 80 and carrying the roller bearing 100 which is movable axially of the pivot. The piston 70 is hydraulically loaded and urges the discs 12, 14 towards each other to counteract the force exerted by the slurry which enters between the discs and is compressed and discharged by the doctor 53 as the discs rotate.
