Abstract

The vehicle wheel (1) is fitted to the front face of the drum (2), which is secured to the drive shaft (5) by splines. The wheel centre is mounted in bearing (8). Pivot (7) is solid with the shock absorber (9) and has two radial holes forming cylinders with pistons bearing on brake shoes, these, in turn, bearing on the drum. The shoes are small in size and access to them can be gained through appropriately shaped apertures, without removing the wheel or drum. These apertures are normally covered by flexibly mounted covers which also serve to protect the brake gear and support the brake shoes.
