Abstract

896,994. Centrifugal pumps. WITTWER, E. Nov. 23, 1959 [Dec. 9, 1958], No. 39603/59. Class 110 (1). A circulating pump, more particularly for central heating systems, comprises a casing having an inlet port and an outlet port for connecting the pump in the flow line, fluid circulating means removably located in the casing, and valve means located in the casing for closing the inlet and outlet ports and biased to the closed position, the valve means being held in the open position by the fluid circulating means but closing automatically when the fluid circulating means is removed. After releasing bolts 8, the driving motor 7, bearing 5 and pump impeller 3 can be removed as a unit from the pump casing 9. This allows a ported cylinder 13, which normally abuts the bearing 5 as shown, to move under the action of a compressionspring 19 into abutment with a stop 20. In this position, the cylinder 13 seals off the inlet branch 11 and outlet branch 12 to prevent loss of liquid from the circulation line.
