896,961. Hollow rollers. KUSTERS, E. Oct. 6, 1960 [Oct. 9, 1959], No. 34285/60. Class 34(1) A pressure roller comprises a hollow cylinder having a spaced core rotating with it which has pressure loaded ends, the space between cylinder and core having chambers parallel to the roller axis formed by tubes of resilient-material deformable in cross-section. The hollow cylinder has a spaced rotating core 2 with pressure-loaded ends, the space 8 being divided by projections or ribs 4 on the core into pockets, each of which contain a deformable tube 5. The tubes are filled with liquid or gas and are successively connected to a source of pressure by a distribution valve (not shown) when in the vicinity of the surface 3 of a co-operating roller. Additional cushioning may be achieved by the insertion of elastic hollow spherical bodies and the space round the tubes may be filled with heat resistant oil which is circulated therethrough.
