Abstract

896,780. Trueing grinding wheels. CINCINNATI MILLING MACHINE CO. Nov. 30, 1960 [April 6, 1960], No. 41135/60. Class 60. A method of trueing a rotating grinding wheel 16 comprises rotating a diamond 13 about an axis 12 therethrough and moving the diamond across the wheel. The diamond is formed with a substantially conical point 30 and mounted with the point lying in the axis 12 of a shaft 11 which is supported in bearings 18, 19, 20 in a block 17. The shaft may be rotated by an electric or hydraulic motor or, as shown, by blades 22 subjected to the pressure of a fluid, such as air, supplied through a pipe 23. The diamond, which is rotated at least at the angular speed of the grinding wheel, or preferably faster, is arranged to have a trailing action and engage the wheel with a line contact. A cam may be provided to control the movement of the diamond so as to form a curved profile on the grinding wheel.
