896,712. Angular bending. JOHNSON, S. A. Jan. 15, 1959 [Feb. 6, 1958], No. 1521/59. Class 83 (4). A die for use with a punch for bending flat metal stock comprises a body member mounted below the punch supporting a pair of elongate die bars, having flat upper surfaces for supporting such metal stock, for rotation about their longitudinal axes, the bars being disposed side by side below, and one on each side of, the punch, the bars turning as the punch is moved down between them to effect the bending. Semi-cylindrical bars 18, 19, held in grooves 24 in a body member 13 by a strap 26 resiliently pressed by springs 32 across one end of the bars, support a metal sheet S bent by downward movement of a press-brake punch 11 or 11<SP>1</SP>, the bars turning during bending from their initial position with their flat surfaces coplanar. If the sheet S is cut partially across at C the part P<SP>1</SP> extending beyond the cut C and the end of the die is not bent. In a modification, Fig. 10, the ends of the bars 18, 19 are held by straps 26a each carried by a rod 38 extending down between notches in the bars and being resiliently urged downwardly by a spring 41. End caps 44 limit longitudinal movement of the bars. The flat surfaces of the bars may lie above or below their axes of rotation.
