[Also in Group XXII] The crankshaft 4 of a press is driven by a main clutch 10 and braked by a disc friction clutch arrangement which comprises plates, a housing 2 held stationary by a stop 1, and a piston 9 which moves to the left to release the brake when air is supplied through a pipe. If the press jams, stop 1 is released, clutch 5 engages belt pulley 6 and the brake is used as a supplementary coupling which is applied simultaneously with the drive of the main clutch 10.
