Abstract

896,643. Coating concrete bodies. STANTON IRONWORKS CO. Ltd. Sept. 20, 1960 [Nov. 9, 1959], No. 37911/59. Class 87(2). A method of coating a concrete or like body or plurality of such bodies consists of feeding a predetermined quantity of casting material at an even rate controlled by vibrating devices into a mould or moulds, the mould or moulds being simultaneously vibrated by vibrating a support therefor. In the casting of a pair of prestressed concrete railway sleepers the concrete mix is fed from a hopper j through shoots k to shoots o provided with electro-magnetic vibrators (not shown) and which feed the material into moulds m. Electromagnetic vibrators p bolted to the hopper j and shoots k assist the flow of material. A time switch (not shown) controls the period of operation of the device vibrating the shoots o, and thus the amount of material fed into each mould. A framework a supports members c forming part of a unit which embodies a vibrating device f and is raised by jacks d to lift the moulds m from brackets n before the mix enters the mould.
