Abstract

896,529. Two-part couplings. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Sept. 29, 1960 [Sept. 4, 1959], No. 30217/59. Class 38 (1). A plug pin or socket contact 10, having retaining flanges 11, is inserted in a smaller, stepped (not shown in Fig.), hole 13 in an elastomeric body 5, by means of a tool, comprising a cylindrical sleeve 1, with a stop flange 6 on its outer surface at a distance from its outer end approximately equal to the thickness of the elastomeric body, and a tapered mandrel 7, adapted (plug portion 8) to plug into the sleeve, and having a maximum radius equal to that of the above. In use, the sleeve and plugged-in mandrel are inserted into the hole 13 up to the stop flange 6 and the mandrel withdrawn from the sleeve. The plug or socket element 10, together with connecting wire 14 is inserted into the sleeve bore 4 and the sleeve removed from the hole 13, leaving the plug or socket element held in the hole by friction and the steps therein. The depth of the sleeve bore 4 is such that the required length of contact portion of the plug pin or socket contact, is left protruding upwards from the elastomeric body.
