Abstract

896,521. Drying sand &c. HARDY & PADMORE Ltd. Sept. 5, 1960 [Sept. 11, 1959; Nov. 6, 1959], Nos. 31008/59 and 37668/59. Class 34(2) A mechanism for separating water from sand and like material comprises an endless uncovered travelling belt disposed at an inclination and of trough construction and having a hopper for depositing the material on the belt whereby it is carried upwardly by the upper uncovered run of the belt which is driven in that direction, the water gravitating downwardly against the upward run of the belt and the ingredients being collected at the respective extremities of the belt. Sand or like material from a hopper f is dewatered by upward passage along an imperforate endless band conveyer a of trough shape so as to allow the water to gravitate downwardly against the upward movement of the conveyer, the sand and water being collected at the upper and lower extremities respectively of the conveyer. The trough formation of the conveyer may be achieved by turning up the corrugated edges of a belt which is mounted about pulleys b, c or the trough may be formed by passage of a flat belt over bottom and side rollers. The conveyer is pivotable about the lower end and the angle of inclination is adjustable by a vertical rod c<SP>1</SP>. A vibrating plate h may be situated beneath the upper run of the conveyer to assist in the separation of water from the sand.
