Abstract
896,516. Battery testing. CAMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES PILES ELECTRIQUES CIPEL. Jan. 9, 1959 [Jan. 13, 1958], No. 899/59. Class 37. In a device for checking the state of charge of a battery 1, which supplies a discharge lamp 9 by way of an oscillator 2 and a transformer 4, a voltage drop is produced in the supply circuit to the lamp whereby the lamp is extinguished if the state of charge of the battery is unacceptable; means being provided to vary the voltage drop in accordance with the ambient temperature. A potential divider, comprising resistors 10, 15 and thermistor 16, is connected across the battery by switch 12, the resulting voltage drop across resistor 10 being such that the lamp 9 is extinguished when the battery load voltage is below a given value. Compensation for variation of the battery load voltage with temperature is provided by thermistor 16 which, for a given state of charge of battery 1, enables a constant voltage, independent of temperature, to be applied to the oscillator.
