Abstract

895,752. Annealing. LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN A.G. GES. FUR. July 8, 1959 [July 9, 1958], No. 23460/59. Class 72. A process for heat treating a steel plate after welding comprises heating the plate in the region of a seam weld so that a band along and within which the seam extends is heated to above the Ac 3 point and two lateral bands, one on either side of the first band, are heated to below the Ac 3 point, the width of the inner band being two to three times the thickness of the plate and the width of the three bands combined being not more than five times the thickness of the plate. As shown, an inner band 5 including a weld seam 20 may be heated by a burner to a temperature above Ac 3 , and two bands T to a temperature below Ac 3 , the three bands being allowed to cool in still air. The parts of the plate outside the outer bands may be cooled.
