Abstract
846,597. Annealing. DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE A.G., and ALLGEMEINE ELEKTRICITATSGESELLSCHAFT. Jan. 8, 1958 [Jan. 8, 1957], No. 777/58. Class 72 [Also in Group XXII] In seam welding e.g., by arc or oxy-acetylene flame, steel workpieces, a zone on each side of the seam is pre-heated to produce a steep temperature gradient between the zones and the seam, and a wide transverse zone behind the weld point is also heated, the preheating welding and post-heating producing a uniform temperature in the wide zone. As shown in Fig. 2a the induction heaters 7 produce zones of 1100‹C. and a seam temperature of 300‹C. in front of the weld point. Immediately, behind the weld point 4 the temperature distribution is as shown in Fig. 2b. Subsequent heating by an induction heater 8 produces a wide zone at about 1200‹C. (graph c, Fig. 2c). The work is allowed to cool to about 650‹C. at which temperature it is maintained for two minutes by an induction heater 9 producing the distribution shown in graph d, Fig. 2c. Subsequent cooling is limited by an asbestos apron 10. The heaters may be automatically controlled in response to the temperature of the work. Specification 794,001 is referred to.
