Abstract
A process for the bromination of salicylanilide comprises reacting salicylanilide with bromine in the presence of an aliphatic alcohol. Preferably lower unsubstituted alcohols having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms such as ethyl alcohol are employed. Water may be present in the reaction mixture generally to the extent of not more than 50% by volume of the total solvent. The products comprise di- and tri-bromo-salicylanilide. An example is furnished.
