Abstract
An alkyl borate ester is prepared by continuously feeding trimethyl borate and an absolute alcohol having 2 to 4 carbon atoms in the molecule into a fractional-distillation column in the proportions 4 mols of borate to 2,8 to 3,4 moles of alcohol, continuously removing from the top of the column an azetropic mixture of methanol and trimethyl borate and continuously removing from the bottom of the column a trialkyl borate ester derived from the alcohol having 2 to 4 carbon atoms in the molecule. The trimethyl borate and alcohol are preferably used in the proportions of 4 moles to 3 moles and are preferably admixed before being fed into the column. The alcohols specified are ethyl, n and iso-propyl, n and t-butyl.
