[Also in Group XI] A course-indicating light beacon comprises a diverging light source and a plurality of screens, having laterally-spaced light apertures, arranged at different distances from the source to define light sectors of different colour. In its basic form as shown in Fig. 1 the apparatus comprises a reflector type light source 1 emitting a beam which is defined by the pair of screens 3, 4 provided with light apertures, further intermediate screens 6, 7, 8 also being provided to block the passage of unwanted light between the inner and outer screens. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which three sectors are provided, the middle sector 16 serving as a courseindicating beam and being of white light, whereas the lateral sectors 17, 18 emit red and green light provided by filters 14, 15 placed in these sectors. The different visual ranges of the lights are compensated for by the provision of a different number of light apertures in the various sectors; thus, as shown in Fig. 3, the white centre sector 16 has two apertures, the red sector 17 four and the green sector 18 has five. In order to keep the sector boundaries sharp the lines bounding the sectors are made as parallel as possible either by the outward displacement of those portions of the screen 4 within the sectors 17, 18 or by placing suitablyshaped prisms in front of screen 4, Fig. 4 (not shown), so that each lateral sector boundary adjacent the middle sector is parallel with the adjacent boundary line of the middle sector.
