Abstract

895,566. Ventilators. SOLZMAN, I. I. Dec. 16, 1960, No. 43480/60. Class 137 [Also in Groups XIII and XXVI] A sound insulating casing for an extractor fan' is formed of synthetic plastic material which may be reinforced with glass fibre and comprises a rectangular base 18, a Venturi inlet 17, upper and lower spaced hoods 14, 13 defining an air outlet passage 29 and fan chamber 24, and a surmounting cover 11 for an electric motor 37, the said cover having a rough porous inner surface 11<SP>1</SP>. A fan 25, e.g. a squirrel cage blower wheel or turbine fan, is mounted in lower chamber 24 and is driven by means of a shaft 36 extending through an aperture 27 in the flat annular portion 26 of hood 14 to motor 37. The confronting inner surfaces of hoods 13 and 14 are smooth and spaced apart by means of screws 23. An upwardly projecting cylindrical sleeve 32 attached to flat portion 26 defines an inlet 31 for the admission of outside air to the cover 11. Drainage holes 8 for condensed liquid are provided in lower hood 13 at its junction with inlet 17, the said junction being below the upper extremity of the latter. In the modification of Fig. 7, the fan 52 is mounted in lower compartment 46, air being expelled under the edge 46a thereof. The motor 65 is located in a hinged cover 47 having outside air inlets 70 with cowls 72, and drives fan 52 indirectly through shaft 64, belt 62 and shaft 51 which is supported by bearings 58 attached to bracket 53. In a further modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the casing is of similar construction to that shown in Fig. 2, but is formed from metal sheeting coated on each side with synthetic plastic material, the inner coating of cover 11 being rough and porous. The construction also includes bolts which extend through base member 18 and hoods 13, 14 and support concentric spacing sleeves. U.S.A. Specifications 2,526,290 and 2,777,382 are referred to.
