Abstract

Compositions for topical application for the prevention or relief of erythema comprise as essential active ingredients: cincophen and hydrocortisone or its 21-acetate. The compositions may be in the form of an ointment, cream, lotion, paste or jelly which preferably contain from 0.2 to 3% by weight of the steroid and from 0.001 to 10% (preferably 0.5 to 2%) cincophen. As optional additional active ingredients there may be present local or topical anaesthetics, e.g. benzyl alcohol or menthol, antibacterial agents and antibiotics, e.g. bacitracin, polymyxin and neomycin, antiseptics, e.g. hexachlorophene or phenol, essential oils, e.g. oil of eucalyptus, oil of cloves or allantoin. Conventional emulsifying, preserving and bodying agents, antioxidants, solvents, buffers and perfumes may also be present.
