[Also in Group XVIII] Each of two adjacent jacking stations A, B (Fig. 3) spaced along a rail track C for lifting transferable bodies from rail or road vehicles has a set of hydraulic jacks 1 ... 4, 11 .. ' 41 the jacks in each set being interconnected so that they move at the same speeds during operation : a control system permits the sets of jacks to be operated independently, and a weighing system is included. In the arrangement illustrated, gauges M in the hydraulic circuits of the jacks can be calibrated directly in terms of the weight lifted. The bodies are lifted by longitudinal girders L (Fig. 9), each of which slides on a lever d pivoted at e to a jack h so that the girders L are first moved outwardly to positions beneath the edges of the body before they are raised to lift the body. Each jack h is pivoted at g. Each jack has a hollow piston l (Fig. 13) working between an outer cylinder h and an inner cylinder i, the effective bores of the spaces m, n being equal so that the four jacks of each set may be synchronized by a connection from the chamber m of one jack to the chamber n of the next jack in the set. The control panel D is mounted between the sets. Two pumps are provided for the system and either or both may be connected to feed either or both of the sets of jacks.
