Abstract

894,510. Transformers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 1, 1959 [Dec. 16, 1958], No. 40599/58. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XIII] Oil, used, for example, to cool a pulse transformer or other electrical equipment, is cooled by providing a substantially vertical cooled surface in contact with the oil, and heat-conducting members extending into the oil so shaped that the oil is caused to circulate rapidly adjacent the cooled surface, so that a thick layer of cold oil cannot form on the surface. The heat-conducting members 8 have a Z-shaped cross-section and are arranged horizontally across the cooled surface which is the wall 1 of the tank containing the oil. In a second embodiment the members are arranged obliquely on the walls (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown). The outer surface of wall 1 may be cooled by passing water or another fluid through pipes 7. The Provisional Specification also describes an arrangement with vertical cells, and also an arrangement with both vertical and horizontal cells. This subjectmatter does not appear in the complete Specification.
