Abstract

A base of Mg or Mg alloy is coated first with a bonding layer of Fe, Ni, Cu, Cr, Co, Sb, Sn, Os or Ru and then with Al or Al alloy. The bonding layer is applied by the thermal decomposition of metal compounds, e.g. copper carbonyl, nickel carbonyl, chromium carbonyl, iron carbonyl, cobalt nitrosyl carbonyl, osmium carbonyl bromide, ruthenium carbonyl chloride, copper nitroxyl, antimony hydride, tin hydride, tetraethyl tin, or nickel or copper acetylacetonate. The Al or Al alloy may be applied by spraying, dipping or electroplating. The Mg or Mg alloy base may be in the form of strip, sheet, wire or pipe.
