Abstract

507,342. Electroplating aluminium, magnesium, and their alloys. ARMSTRONG J. J. V. (Langbein-Pfanhauser-Werke Akt.- Ges.) Dec. 15, 1937, No. 34682. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 14, 1938.] [Class 41] Articles of aluminium, magnesium or their alloys are coated with a nonconductive lacquer or varnish, preferably one of neutral reaction, on which a conductive layer, e.g. of silver is then deposited by treatment with reducible metal salt solutions; the metallized surface is then electroplated, e.g. with copper from an acid bath. Nickel or chromium may be finally deposited. The article may be roughened before application of the lacquer &c. coating; roughening may be effected by anodic oxidation in a sulphuric acid bath. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the conductive layer may be produced by dusting with graphite or a metal powder. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
