An azoic coupling component preparation which yields a clear solution on addition to water containing an alkali comprises a mixture of 2-(2<SP>1</SP> : 3<SP>1</SP>-hydroxynaphthoylamino)-naphthalene, a condensation product of one molecular proportion of formaldehyde with two molecular proportions of α-naphthalene sulphonic acid, and ethylene diamine tetracetic acid or an alkali metal or ammonium salt thereof. The preparation may also contain a small amount of a wetting agent such as sodium 2 : 5-dibutyl-α-naphthalene sulphonate.
