893,803. Superconductor circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 12, 1960 [Aug. 14, 1959], No. 27846/59. Class 40 (9). [Also in Group XXXVI] A superconductor circuit device consists of a substrate of a semi-conductor material which is insulating at the low operating temperature of the device and on which is electroplated a metal conductor portion forming part of the superconductor device. As shown in Fig. 1, a binary data storage device consists of a substrate 10 of mono-crystalline silicon which is suitably massed and acts as the cathode in an electroplating bath to deposit lead or indium sensing conductors 15 and areas 16 and 17 to connect the sensing conductors to the rear of the device. A silicon monoxide insulating layer 14 is then deposited from the vapour phase and a lead film evaporated. Holes with diametric bars across them act as the storage elements. Insulating layers 21, 22, 23 between which lie the drive conductors 19, 20 which may be of niobium are then deposited. Array of storage elements.-Figs. 2 and 3 show top and bottom views of an array of storage elements formed by lead films both above and below the substrate. Below and insulated from the lead films are the sensing conductors which extend along the surface of the substrate as 35a, 36a and are connected through the substrate to corresponding sensing conductors on the lower side. The drive conductors also extend along the top as 39a and 40a and are connected to corresponding row drive conductors 35b, 36b beneath. The column drive conductors 43a to 43 fare separate for all six columns of storage elements however and are connected to terminals 44 at the edge of the device.
