Abstract
893,667. Winches. ANDERSSON, N. E. July 14, 1959 [July 16, 1958], No. 24104/59. Class 78 (5). A builders' hoist has a pair of oppositelymoving cages driven by winch drums 5, 6 on a common shaft 2, a clutch 7, 8, which allows drum 6 to be disengaged from shaft 2 to enable drum 5 to be moved relative to drum 6 to change the hoisting height of the cage associated therewith, a toothed segment 32 adapted to engage teeth 31 on drum 6 to lock the drum, and a single control lever 21 which, when moved clockwise, first locks drum 6 and then disengages clutch 7, 8, and, when moved anticlockwise, first reengages the clutch and then unlocks the drum. Lever 21 is secured to a shaft 20 which is rigidly attached to levers 19, 22, 23. Lever 19 operates the clutch release lever 14 through a lost-motion connection 17, 18; lever 23, is connected to a spring strip 29 carrying segment 32 and lever 22 co-operates with a catch mechanism 24, 27 which normally prevents rotation of shaft 20, but which is released to permit such rotation when the cage associated with drum 6 is at its lower limit of travel where it engages an abutment 28 on latch lever 24.
