893,554. Gas burners. CALOR GAS (DISTRIBUTING) CO. Ltd. Sept. 4, 1958 [Oct. 24, 1957; March 11, 1958], No. 28409/58. Class 75(1) In a radiant gas burner comprising a chamber 1 in which gas supplied to an inlet 2 is expanded and mixed with air, the chamber has an opening covered by a gas pervious panel 6 overlaid by a mesh screen 8 and underlaid by an apertured baffle 5, combustion taking place in the region between the panel 6 and the screen 8. The elements 5, 6, 8 are spaced apart except at their edges where they are secured to the chamber by clamps 9. The baffle 5 includes a ridge 5a directed towards the inlet tube 2 and extending parallel to the chamber wall through which this tube enters, the apertures in the baffle being unequally spaced and being confined to the vicinity of the ridge. The panel 6 may either be a plate drilled with capillary holes or comprise a pair of overlying perforated sheets of which the one nearer to the screen 8 consists of steel gauze.
