Abstract
893,277. Explosive and propellent compositions. POUDRERIES REUNIES DE BELGIQUE S.A. May 16, 1958 [Dec. 13, 1957], No. 15847/58. Class 9(2). A process for the production of pourable explosive or propellent compositions containing at least one fluid component and at least 50% by weight, calculated on the total weight of the composition, of a pulverulent or crystalline explosive component comprises treating the surface of the pulverulent or crystalline component with a glycol. Preferably 0.1 to 2.5%. by weight of ethylene glycol or a polypropylene glycol is sprayed or atomized on to the crystalline or pulverulent component in the moist state and the product is subsequently dried. In Examples (1) 0.5% of polypropylene glycol is added to hexogen and trinitrotoluene, and (2) ethylene glycol is added to ammonium perchlorate containing lecithin, dioctyl phthalate, and an unsaturated polyester. Acrylic polymers, epoxy resins and polysulphide elastomers may also be used as binders.
