893,128. Latches; locks. NORRENBERGSUDHAUS, E., and NORRENBERG-SUDHAUS, W., [trading as SUDHAUS SOHNE, HEINRICH.]. Oct. 1, 1958 [Feb. 19, 1958; March 26, 1958], No. 31404/58. Class 44. A locking device for a container having closable parts comprises a carrying handle, handle end covers attachable with the handle ends to one of the container parts, a locking catch mechanism attachable to the same container part as the handle and catch retaining means attachable to the other container part, a pivotally mounted lever being provided which projects laterally from one of the handle end covers and is arranged to actuate the locking catch mechanism when angularly displaced about the lever pivot. As described, a bolt 9 having a hook 16 for lockably engaging an element 35 is slidingly disposed in a housing 10 provided with a cover 11, the bolt 9 being urged to the engaging position by a spring 24 which bears against a flange 25 on the cover 11. Connected to the housing 10 by means of bolts 29, 30 is a handle end cover 2, and a pin 8 attached to the bolt 9 protrudes through elongated apertures 12, 14 in the base 3 of the cover 2 and in the cover 11, respectively, a lever 15 being pivotally mounted on the base 3 and arranged when manually actuated to engage the pin 8 for retraction of the bolt 9. The housing 10 and the covers 11 and 2 are attached to a base-plate 1 which is fastened to or forms part of the container, the carrying handle being provided by a steel spring 4 covered with synthetic plastic material 5; the handle when lifted prevents movement of the pin 8 by engaging stops 21 projecting from the base 3 and clamping the pin against the base. A spring 26 secures the bolt 9 in the engaging position when the former engages a bent-over portion 27 on the cover 11, the spring 26 being disengageable by a key 18. A second bolt 31, is pivotally mounted on either the housing 10 as shown or the cover 11 and is provided at one end with a hook 37 for engaging the element 35, its other end being spring urged into engagement with a stop 34 on the bolt 9 so that movement of the latter to disengage it will also disengage the bolt 31.
