Abstract

893,020. Spinning and finishing yarns. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E.I. May 20, 1960 [June 30, 1959], No. 17940/60. Class 120(3) Single, multiple, e.g. warp-sheet, ribbon or tow, or double ends of twisted or untwisted monofilament, multifilament or staple fibre yarn of natural or synthetic materials, e.g. polyamides, polyesters, polyvinyls and polyacrylics or copolymers thereof, or glass are bulked by passage through, and subjection to the action of a turbulent fluid within, a jet. The jet comprises a housing 1 bored to provide a chamber 8 and conduit 9 for compressed air and to receive a hollow needle or yarn inlet tube 4 and an orifice or yarn outlet block 16 which are shaped complementarily with conical surfaces, as at 14, 19 and 13, 20, having similar or different vertex angles of 30 degrees to 120 degrees to form an extension 22 of chamber 8. The block 16 is screw-threadedly adjustable in relation to needle 4 to vary the turbulent zone 23. Air vortices within the jet may alternately and randomly twist and untwist the yarn and/or constituent filaments or fibres thereof. Yarns of similar or different materials, structure, individual filament crosssectional shape, denier and/or colour may be fed or overfed at similar or different speeds to a jet and combined therein to form mixed filament, intertwisted, or cored composite yarns, e.g. imitation chenille or boucle.
