Abstract
891,692. Paper for adhesive tapes &c. BARTELL, C., and WESCHLER, J. R. July 15, 1958 [July 15, 1957], No. 22689/58. Classes 96 and 140. An open, porous, saturable paper web for making pressure-sensitive adhesive masking tapes is internally bonded with e.g. 25 to 200% of a composition of an elastomeric conjugated diene copolymer containing an acid group, and a minor amount, e.g. 0.5 to 25% of a waterdispersible, heat-advancing, phenol., urea, or melamine-formaldehyde synthetic resin. The paper, which may be flat, crÛped, or embossed, may be made from wood, rope, rag, or other natural, or synthetic fibre. The elastomer may be of butadiene or isoprene &c. copolymerized with acrylic, methacrylic, ethacrylic or chloroacrylic acid, or with crotonic, itaconic, maleic, fumaric, aconitic or chloromaleic acid, or anhydrides or partial esters; or it may be a terpolymer from monomers including styrene &c. The diene should be at least 40% of the copolymer. The resins may be cured at 300‹ to 400‹ F. for 10 sees. to 10 mins. The adhesive composition for the tape may include e.g. milled rubber, resin and oil &c. or e.g. a synthetic resin and hydrogenated rosin &c. Specification 689,667 is referred to.
