Abstract

891,252. Windscreen wiper mechanisms. BOSCH G.m.b.H., ROBERT. Oct. 9, 1959 [Oct. 9, 1958], No. 32331/58. Class 138(1). [Also in Group XXV] The power transmitting linkage of a windscreen wiper mechanism comprises a ball joint the socket 4 of which is constituted by a single piece of elastic synthetic plastic material secured in an aperture 3 in a connecting rod 1, one end of the socket being of reduced cross-section (e.g. hemispherical, as shown, or conical) so that the socket can be inserted into the aperture by applying pressure thereto. The ball 6a is then snapped into the socket in a similar manner. The aperture 3 may be non-circular to prevent the socket from rotating relative to the rod. The plastic material may be polyurethane or polytetrafluoroethylene. The Provisional Specification also describes an alternative joint comprising a cylindrical bush made of plastic material and having its opposite ends of reduced diameter for insertion, by axial compression of the bush, in aligned apertures in the U-shaped end of a connecting rod.
