Abstract

890,465. Treating anodized aluminium. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 22, 1960 [July 8, 1959], No. 23449/59. Class 41. Anodized unsealed aluminium metal or alloy articles (e.g. cooking utensils), such as are anodized in a bath of 22% H2SO4 using a current of 2.5 amps., are treated after deacidifying with an aqueous emulsion of an organopolysiloxane fluid to displace water from and seal the pores in the anodic coating, thus improving the waterrepellency, anti-stick properties and corrosion resistance of the articles. Examples of liquid organopolysiloxanes are: linear polydimethyl siloxanes end-stopped with trimethylsilyl in which some of the methyl groups may be replaced by phenyl or hydroxyl groups or hydrogen; liquid cyclic polydimethyl siloxanes (e.g. octamethyl-cyclotetrasiloxane or decamethyl-cyclopentasiloxane).
