Surface treatment of a workpiece comprises supporting the workpiece on a float floating in a liquid such that the workpiece is partially immersed therein for surface treatment by said liquid. The surface treatment may comprise currentless deposition of a metal, e.g. a noble metal such as gold, on to a plastics or metal workpiece, or chemical surface treatment with or without passage of electric current, e.g. degreasing, rust removal, pickling or anodic oxidation, but not electro-plating which forms the subject of the parent Specification, which also discloses apparatus suitable for carrying out the present invention.
