890,111. Hydraulic pit props. B.R.D. CO. Ltd. May 23, 1958 [May 28, 1957], No. 16830/57. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXIX] A fluid pressure relief valve for an hydraulic pit prop comprises a spring loaded ball 12 which controls the discharge of fluid from a chamber 21 forming part of a pressurized fluid system for the prop into a chamber 1 and a second spring- loaded ball 17 which controls the discharge of fluid from chamber 1 and which initiates the latter discharge at a pressure which is less than the pressure which causes operation of the ball valve 12. The ball 12 is loaded by a spring 14 acting through a pressure plate 13. The ball 17 is mounted in a plug-like subsidiary housing 7 and is loaded by a spring 18. A bleed passage from chamber 1 to the exterior may be provided by a clearance between the engaging screw threads of the plug 7 and the chamber body 1.
