Abstract
890,047. Band clips. PRECISION MECANlQUE LABINAL. Jan. 2, 1959 [Jan. 30, 1958], No. 273/59. Class 44. A band clip comprises one or two lengths of relatively thin wire bent to form substantially four convolutions 3a, 3b, 4a, 4b, and two prismatic barrels or cylindrical metal end members 5, 6, having slots or holes 5a, 6a, in which the wire is secured, the end members being mounted on a screw-threaded element 7, actuation of which is adapted to move the end members toward or away from each other, the ends of the wire extending substantially tangentially to the periphery of the part of a pipe to be clamped and being secured to at least one end member. As shown, the clip consists of a continuous length of wire and the barrel members are threaded for a tightening screw 7. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) the free ends of the wire are welded together. In another modification, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) the free ends of the wire are wedged in the slots. In a further modification, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) the free ends of the wire engage slots at each end of the barrel. In the arrangement according to Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown) two lengths of wire are employed and the slots extend obliquely across the ends of the barrels. The barrels may be hexagonal in cross-section, Fig. 12 (not shown). The screw 7 may be constituted by a double screw which is actuated by a central threaded member.
