889,905. De-scaling wire by brushing. PRING & SON Ltd., JOHN. Oct. 10. 1960 [Oct. 9, 1959], No. 34233/59. Class 60. A wire de-scaling machine comprises acasingA rotatable about the axis XX of the wire and mounted in bearings A<SP>1</SP> in a frame, the casing carrying at right angles to the rotational axis two spindles B<SP>1</SP>, each of which carries at its inner end a brush C and at its outer end, outside the casing, arms D supporting a rim d engaging a friction surface d<SP>2</SP> on the rim of a non-rotary disc D<SP>1</SP> mounted in the frame. The disc D<SP>1</SP> is urged into contact with the rims by adjustable springs d<SP>3</SP> so that, as the casing rotates about the axis XX, the spindles B<SP>1</SP> cause the brushes to rotate about their axes. The positions of the brushes C relative to the wire may be adjusted by the screwed shanks c of the spindles B<SP>1</SP>. Hardened bushes a<SP>4</SP> and d<SP>4</SP> are provided within the stub shafts a<SP>2</SP>, a<SP>3</SP>, for the passage of the wire through the machine. Seals a<SP>5</SP> protect the bearings from scale and dirt.
