The unitary cylinder block 1, Fig. 3, and upper crankcase 5 of an in-line engine is of inverted-T shape so as to present on each side seating faces 4 which support engine control means and accessories within the main engine outline and allow identical engines to be used side-by-side but oppositely axially orientated in a marine drive.
