Abstract

The invention comprises: (a) compounds of the general formula <FORM:0889074/IV (b)/1> (wherein Py represents a 1-R1-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridyl-3 or 4) radical, which may additionally carry one or more C1-5 alkyl radicals, and R and R1 each represent a hydrocarbon radical of aliphatic character) and their acid addition salts; (b) compounds of the general formula <FORM:0889074/IV (b)/2> wherein Py1 represents a quaternized pyridyl-(3 or 4) radical having the grouping <FORM:0889074/IV (b)/3> and optionally further substituted in the same way as Py; (c) 3-propionylpyridine oxime and its acid addition salts; (d) the preparation of compounds (a) by reacting compounds (b) with a di-light metal hydride; (e) pharmaceutical preparations containing compounds (a) (see Group VI). Pyridinium compounds as defined at (b) above are prepared by reacting the appropriate pyridyl-(3 or 4)-ketone with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and treating the resulting oxime with a reactive ester of an appropriate alcohol. 3-Propionylpyridine is prepared by Grignard reaction of 3-cyanopyridine with ethyl magnesium iodide.ALSO:Pharmaceutical preparations, having parasympathomimetic action, comprises, in admixture or conjunction with a pharmaceutically suitable carrier, compounds of the general formula <FORM:0889074/VI/1> (wherein Py represents a 1-R1-1,2,5,6-tetra-hydropyrimidyl-(3 or 4) radical, which may additionally carry one or more C1,5 alkyl radicals, and R and R1 each represent a hydrocarbon radical of aliphatic character) or their acid addition salts (e.g. hydrohalides, sulphates, phosphates, nitrates, perchlorates, ascorbates, or aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or heterocyclic carboxylates or sulphonates). They may take the form of tablets, dragees, solutions, suspensions or emulsions, and may be sterilized and/or may contain preserving, stabilizing, wetting or emulsifying agents, or additional therapeutically valuable substances.
