Abstract

888,794. Securing wheels to axles. FORDHAM PRESSINGS Ltd., and PARKER, J. F. Feb. 2, 1961 [Feb. 10, 1960], No. 4643/60. Class 144 (1). A wheel is detachably secured to the axle 15 of a lightweight vehicle by means of twoarmed V-shaped spring wire clip 17 anchored, at its bend 26, at or near the peripheral wall of a recess 16 in the wheel hub, so that its arms embrace a circumferential groove 18 in the axle end, the free ends 20 of the clip being splayed apart and engaging inclined channels 21 in the headed inner end 22 of a plunger 24 extending radially through a hole 25 in the hub recess periphery whereby the arms 17 may be spread apart for wheel removal. Near their ends 20 the arms are bowed towards each other at 19 to limit the engagement within the axle groove and thereby reduce friction, the groove having a slightly greater width than the diameter of the clip wire. Anchorage of the clip may be by means of a screw 27, or the clip end 26 may engage in a recess or hole in the hub recess periphery.
