Abstract

854,833. Wheel-cover discs. WARD, K. F. Nov. 12, 1958 [Nov. 22, 1957], No. 36396/57. Class 144 (1). [Also in Group XXV] In a spring clip for attaching a cover plate to the wheel rim of a road vehicle wheel the clip is formed to a substantially U-shaped configuration to provide two limbs 21, 22 joined by a centre portion 23, there being provided at least one tooth 27 which projects into the interior of the clip and which is directed towards the centre portion together with at least one tooth 30, which is provided on the outermost free edge of the in situ radially outer limb 21 so as to project outwardly of the clip and extend in a direction away from the centre portion. The clip is adapted to be pushed on to the inboard edge marginal portion of an annular mounting member of the cover plate until the centre portion 23 abuts the inboard edge and in this position the inner limb 22 lies against the radially inner face of the mounting member while the outer limb 21 lies adjacent the radially outermost face of the mounting member and outwardly of the wheel. The inner limb 22 is formed with a single corrugation 24 to strengthen the clip and the outermost limb 21 and the centre portion 23 is divided at two places 25 to form three arms. The end arms 26 are each formed with one of the teeth 27, the teeth being pointed and each point being directed radially inwardly from the arm and towards the centre portion so that it resists any force tending to remove the clip from the mounting member. The central arm 28 is of arcuate formation in cross-section and is adapted to engage the wheel rim. It is provided with four of said teeth 30 spaced apart longitudinally and these teeth are flat edged so as to resist withdrawal of the cover plate from the wheel rim. Eight clips are normally used spaced equidistantly round the periphery of the mounting member to support the cover plate on the wheel.
