In a modification or improvement of the process for the production of high tensile steel rods or wires for reinforcing concrete from steel rods or wires of lower tensile strength as disclosed in the parent Specification, the process consists of two stages in the first of which the rods are pulled by a first tensile force through a drawing die, and the second of which includes a step in which the rods are profiled by being pulled through a rolling mill by a tensile force that is substantially less than the first. The profiling may be carried out in several steps, using a three high-rolling mill. In an example, a rod of 5.5 mms. is drawn down to 4.3 mms., using a force of between 312 and 467 kg., depending on the speed of drawing. The rod is passed through profiling rolls to reduce its diameter to 4.2 mms. The tensile force used in this stage is about 75 kg.
