888,143. Pipe joints; pipe stoppers. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. May 6, 1958 [May 10, 1957; June 26, 1957], No. 14432/58. Class 99(1). [Also in Group XXIX] A pipe fitting comprises a female member 1, Fig. 1, formed with a frusto-conical seat 3, a plastics male member 2 having a flexible annular end portion 4 with a bevelled annular lip 4<SP>1</SP> which engages and seals with the seat 3 when tightened by a coupling nut 6. The depth of insertion of the male member may be limited by abutment of a collar 7 or by an internal flange of the union nut. The fitting may be made entirely of plastic. Pipes 10, 11 may be secured internally or externally of the collars 12 and 13 by means of an adhesive applied to external or internal grooves 14. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the male annular sealing portion consists of the hose end 15 which is supported internally by an annulus 16. In further embodiments the coupling member is integral with the male member which may be solid to form a pipe obturator and is provided with a duct which, on partial unscrewing of the coupling, allows testing for fluid presence or pressure. In an application, Fig. 5 (not shown), of various forms of the fittings, a distributor, controlled by electromagnetic or solenoid valves directs air to either side of a pneumatic cylinder. In a further embodiment in the form of a valve Fig. 6, unscrewing of the coupling nut 48 allows fluid passage from an inlet 57, through radial ducts 55 to an outlet 54. Further unscrewing of the coupling nut aligns the cylindrical portion 45 with the recess 59 to permit testing for fluid presence or pressure through a duct 58. In further modifications valve fittings are arranged at the junctions of pipes in end to end or in right-angled relationship.
