Abstract
888,060. Feeding material from skip hoists; hopper discharge. QUALTER, HALL & CO. (SALES) Ltd. March 13, 1959 [March 20, 1958], No. 8997/58. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (4). Bulk material, which is fed at intervals over a shoot 4, is received by a conveyer 7, the receiving end of which is in line with the shoot and which follows an arcuate path below a line joining the receiving and discharge ends. As shown, the contents of a skip 5 pass through an air lock door 10 in an air lock chamber 3 and pass through a shoot 4 on to an endless plate or other conveyer 7, which is curved, as shown, to be initially parallel to the bottom wall of the shoot so that material from the shoot gradually loses momentum until running at the same speed as the conveyer. At a predetermined position, a switch 13 is actuated by the leading edge of the material on the conveyer to close the airlock door 10, which in turn opens an airlock door 11 to allow the material to be fed through an outlet 6 on to a conveyer or vibrating feeder 12. The conveyer is provided with a variable-speed drive and may be provided with vertical side walls 14 which are extended laterally to the side walls 15 of the chamber 3. For a non-airlocked installation, the chamber 3 and doors 10, 11 are omitted.
