Abstract

Apparatus for the continuous dyeing of textile material comprises means for impregnating the material with a dye solution or suspension, an elongated, substantially vertical, chamber having an entrance and exit at its upper and lower ends respectively, means for heating the interior of the chamber and means for passing the impregnated material through the chamber in a downward direction. As shown in Fig. 1, textile fabric 1 is passed over roller 59 into a trough 3 of dye solution, under roller 5 and thence between padding rollers 4, 50, positively driven by belt 51 from a drive pulley 35. The fabric then passes <FORM:0887735/IV (c)/1> <FORM:0887735/IV (c)/2> down the centre of a tube 6, surrounded by heating jackets 7, 8 thermostatically controlled by switches 38, 39. At the lower end of the tube the fabric passes into a liquid 11, e.g. water, in a vessel 12, the arrangement being such that the tube is partly immersed in the liquid, thus sealing it off. The fabric passes under guide rollers 13 immersed in liquid 11, over a driving roller 14, over and under guide rolls 15, 18 and thus through fluids 17, 19 in baths 16, 20. The latter have heaters 37 mounted therebeneath. If desired the fabric may be passed over further rollers and through additional after-treatment baths. The fabric is then passed in front of a heating element 21, the latter being associated with shaft 52 driven by a motor 53 which swings the heating element to one side when the fabric ceases to move through the apparatus. The fabric then passes over a roller 22 and is wound up on a spool 23 on shaft 44. A motor 24 driving a pulley 26 through a belt 25 imparts movement to the fabric. The same motor 24 imparts friction drive to a pulley 35 through a belt 34 driven by pulley 33. The pulley 35 is mounted on the shaft 44 which has a core 45 keyed thereto and biased against the interior of the flange of the spool 23 by means of a coil spring 46 which is anchored at the end by means of a peg 47 extending through the shaft 44 (see Fig. 2). In a modification (not shown), the coil spring is biased to a friction plate which is splined to the shift into contact with the flange of the spool. The spool 23 is carried on the core rotatable about the shaft. A wing nut is screwed on to the shaft to hold the flange against the friction plate. In another modification (not shown) three chambers are provided with their longitudinal axes parallel and vertical. Textile fabric is caused to pass downwardly through the first and third chambers and upwardly through the second chamber, over and under rollers located at either end of the chambers and through impregnation baths located above the chambers. Specification 784,394 is referred to.
