Abstract

887,193. Cutting by fusion. HANCOCK & CO. (ENGINEERS) Ltd. May 28, 1958 [May 31, 1957], No. 17343/57. Class 83 (4). A flame-cutting machine for cutting doublebevelled edges on a plate X comprises a top bevelling burner 1 and a bottom bevelling burner 3, means 6 for angular adjustment of each burner and means 9 for adjusting each burner horizontally towards or away from the plate edge to be cut and including an index 16 and scale 17 graduated to indicate the depth of cut for any angular setting of the burner. The burners 1, 3, together with a vertical cutting burner 2 are mounted on a floating assembly, such as a vertically movable bar or parallel link arms, carrying a wheel 11 running along the plate X. Each burner is adjustable axially by a knob 4 and each bevelling burner is adjustable angularly in its quadrant 6 which is mounted on a slider 7 movable along a horizontal slide 8 by worm and nut gear 9. A rack 13 carried by each slider 7 meshes with a pinion 14 on a spindle 15 secured to an index 16 which thus rotates around a scale plate 17. The latter carries scales 18 giving the depth of cut for each angular setting. The scale plate is adjustable about spindles 15 by a knob 21 and carries an additional scale 20 co-operating with a fixed scale 19 for setting the scale plate to suit different sizes of burner nozzle.
